Two individuals found themselves in handcuffs following separate anti-illegal drug operations in Cebu City and Cordova town, Mactan Island. The incidents took place on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in two different locations.

Arrest in Cordova Town

At 3:40 p.m., 23-year-old Jay-r Lopez, also known as Onom, was apprehended in Barangay Buagsong, Cordova. The Drug Enforcement Unit of Cordova Police Station, under the leadership of Major Michael Gingoyon, conducted the buy-bust operation in collaboration with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA 7).

Upon searching Lopez, authorities discovered 16 small packs of suspected shabu weighing 0.8 grams, valued at P5,440. They also found P500 in buy-bust money, a 9mm handgun with two live rounds, and a receipt for a pawned cellphone believed to be stolen. Lopez, who is reputed to be a notorious thief in Cordova, admitted to the allegations during police questioning. He confessed to pawning several stolen cellphones.

Arrest in Cebu City

Later that evening, at 11:24 p.m., a high-value individual was taken into custody in Sitio Avocado, Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City. The Drug Enforcement Unit of Mambaling Police Station, headed by Major Jonathan Beethoven Taneo, along with PDEA 7 agents, carried out the operation that led to the arrest of 52-year-old Jose Jerky Jumao-as from Sitio Magsaysay, Barangay Suba, Cebu City.

Authorities seized three medium packs of alleged shabu weighing 15.1 grams and valued at P102,680, along with P200 in buy-bust money from Jumao-as.

These arrests highlight the continuous efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat the proliferation of illegal drugs in Cebu City and its surrounding areas. The collaborative efforts of the police and PDEA are vital in ensuring the safety and security of the community.
