Accident – Death – Obituary News :

On a fateful Monday morning in Houston, Texas, a heartbreaking incident unfolded that shook the community to its core. 12-year-old Carlos Fernandez tragically lost his life while bravely trying to protect his mother and younger sisters from her abusive ex-boyfriend, Terry Rivera.

The Unfolding of Events

The incident took place at around 3 a.m. when Ashley Rostro, Carlos’s mother, was asleep in a bedroom with her boyfriend and two daughters, ages 6 and 7. Carlos was sleeping nearby in the living room when Rivera, the ex-boyfriend, made his way into the family’s apartment.

Rostro recounted the terrifying moment when Rivera opened the bedroom window, a sound she immediately recognized. As Rivera pushed a television off a dresser and made his way inside, chaos ensued.

A Mother’s Heartbreak

Carlos, known as the family’s protector, heard the commotion and rushed to the room to confront Rivera. Tragically, Rivera opened fire, fatally shooting Carlos four times. Rostro, devastated by the loss of her son, described him as her hero who valiantly tried to save his family.

Despite the overwhelming grief, Rostro is determined to be her son’s voice and seek justice for him. She recalled the harrowing events leading up to the tragedy, including a previous break-in by Rivera and his violent behaviour towards her.

Seeking Justice

Rostro had called 911 following a previous attack by Rivera, expressing her concerns and seeking a protective order. However, despite his history of violence and criminal charges, Rivera was not held accountable. This failure to address the escalating danger led to the devastating outcome.

Attorney Anthony Osso Jr. highlighted the missed opportunities to prevent the tragedy, citing Rivera’s prior criminal record and violent behaviour. Rostro’s plea for justice and accountability resonates with many who have faced similar situations.

Community Support and Resources

In the wake of this tragedy, Rostro urges anyone with information on Rivera’s whereabouts to come forward. She also shares resources for individuals experiencing domestic violence, emphasizing the importance of seeking help and support.

The Houston community has rallied around Rostro and her family, offering condolences and support during this difficult time. The memory of young Carlos Fernandez, the brave young boy who sacrificed his life to protect his loved ones, will forever be honoured.
