Teen Faces Charges in Connection to Deadly Shooting in Kansas City

An 18-year-old man, Kadin Hatch, has been charged with second-degree murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, and three counts of armed criminal action in connection to the tragic shooting of 19-year-old Deion Miles on May 29, 2023.

Details of the Incident

The incident took place near 36th and Agnes in Kansas City, where police responded to a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers saw a Mazda speeding and pulled it over at 31st Street and Prospect Avenue. The victim, Deion Miles, was found in the backseat of the vehicle and was rushed to University Health by EMS, where he was pronounced dead.

According to court documents, Miles had been dropped off at a family’s residence after being shot during a drug deal. The victim’s family revealed that Hatch, the suspect, shot Miles, stole his gun and cash, claiming that Miles was flaunting his money.

Social Media Evidence

Following the shooting, Hatch allegedly posted a photo on social media showing a large sum of cash and a Glock handgun, which the victim’s family identified as Miles’ gun. The gun had traces of blood on it, further implicating the suspect in the crime.

Legal Proceedings

Kadin Hatch is currently being held in the Jackson County jail on a $200,000 bond as he awaits trial for the charges brought against him. The case has shocked the community, highlighting the dangers of gun violence and drug-related crimes in Kansas City.
