Authorities in Bolton, England, were called to a residence on Meadow Road following reports of a disturbing situation involving a man in crisis. The individual, later identified as 29-year-old Maxim Nowak, was reportedly experiencing a mental health episode and was believed to be a danger to himself and others. The situation quickly escalated as Nowak was said to be armed with two knives, prompting a response from the Connecticut State Police.
Bodycam Footage Reveals Tense Standoff
Upon arrival at the scene, Troopers Wendy Garcia-Campos, Doug Bernier, and Brian Contenta encountered Nowak in the main hallway of the home. Bodycam footage captured the tense standoff as the troopers attempted to de-escalate the situation and convince Nowak to drop the knives. Despite their efforts, Nowak remained defiant and refused to comply with their commands.
“Relax, Maxwell, come on buddy,” Contenta can be heard saying on the bodycam footage. Despite the troopers’ repeated pleas, Nowak continued to hold onto the knives, leading to a critical moment in the confrontation.
Use of Force and Medical Treatment
As the troopers continued to engage with Nowak, he raised a knife in his left hand, prompting Bernier to deploy his Taser and Contenta to discharge his firearm multiple times, striking Nowak. Following the use of force, troopers and emergency medical services personnel provided immediate medical treatment to Nowak at the scene before he was transported to Hartford Hospital for further care. His current condition remains unknown.
