Tragic Incident in Killeen, Texas

In a heartbreaking turn of events, a 27-year-old man from Killeen, Texas, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter following a fatal crash that occurred in October 2022. Nathaniel Dejuan Brown Daniel turned himself in to the Bell County Sheriff’s Department after being involved in a collision that claimed the life of a young woman.

The Scene of the Crash

The tragic incident took place in the 5200 block of South Fort Hood Street in Killeen. The area was left in shock as emergency responders arrived at the scene to find a red Ford Fusion and a blue Hyundai Elantra severely damaged from the collision. The driver of the Hyundai, Destiny Marie Cruz Lopez, was tragically pronounced dead at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

Details of the Crash

According to Killeen Police reports, the Hyundai was travelling north in the inside northbound lane of South Fort Hood Street when it was struck by the Ford Fusion driven by Brown Daniel, who was heading south in the wrong direction. The impact of the collision resulted in serious injuries to both drivers, with Brown Daniel also being hospitalized for his injuries.

Investigation and Arrest

Responding officers noted that Brown Daniel exhibited signs of impairment, including glossy and bloodshot eyes, and a strong smell of alcohol emanating from his vehicle. A blood sample obtained through a search warrant revealed a blood alcohol level of 0.15, leading to the issuance of a warrant for his arrest on charges of intoxication manslaughter.
