In a devastating turn of events, a fatal fire took the life of Albert Stanonik, a 75-year-old resident of Monroe. The incident occurred at 4485 Middle Road on January 16, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Identification of the Victim

Ashtabula County Coroner’s Investigator, Amber Stewart, confirmed the identity of the victim as Albert Stanonik. The Ashtabula County Coroner’s Office recently received the autopsy results from the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office, shedding light on the tragic loss.

Details of the Fire

Monroe Township Fire Chief, Jason Coy, described the harrowing scene that unfolded on that fateful day. The fire was reported at 4:28 a.m., with firefighters arriving at 4:42 a.m. However, by the time they reached the location, the building was already fully engulfed in flames.

Despite their best efforts, the firefighters were unable to enter the building as the walls had collapsed. It wasn’t until 8:21 a.m. that Stanonik’s body was discovered during the search of the premises. The fire departments of Monroe, Pierpont, Sheffield, Kingsville, and Plymouth all worked tirelessly to battle the blaze.

Investigation Ongoing

Andy Ellinger, senior public information officer for the Ohio Department of Commerce, stated that the cause of the fire is still undetermined. The Ohio Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the incident, with the case remaining open as they await additional test results.
