A tragic incident occurred on March 1, when Lee Clark II, a 56-year-old man from Brookings, was involved in a fatal crash in Moody County, South Dakota. The incident took place on Interstate 29 near mile marker 123, just south of Brookings.
Details of the Crash
According to reports, Clark was driving a 2020 Ford Expedition northbound on Interstate 29 when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle veered off the road and entered the center median. The SUV then crashed before ultimately coming to a stop in the Big Sioux River.
Following the crash, law enforcement officials and bystanders at the scene were able to pull Clark from the vehicle and transport him to a nearby sand bar. Tragically, despite efforts from emergency medical technicians, Clark was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Investigation Ongoing
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. At this time, all information being released is considered to be preliminary as authorities work to determine the cause of the tragic incident.
