Tragedy struck a family of 11 members in Telangana’s Wanaparthy district as five members, including three children, were killed in a horrific car accident on the Bengaluru-Hyderabad national highway near Kothakota. The family was on their way to Hyderabad from Karnataka’s Ballari to attend an engagement function when the unfortunate incident occurred in the early hours of Monday.
The car, a Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, crashed into a tree after the driver, Ali Ahmed, allegedly dozed off at the wheel. The impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of Fathima Bi, Abdul Rahman, Bushra, Yasita Raafil, and Mariya Bi. Six other family members sustained serious injuries, with three of them in critical condition.
Wanaparthy district superintendent of police Rakshitha K Murthy confirmed that rash and negligent driving was the primary cause of the accident. The Ertiga was reportedly speeding when it veered off the road and collided with the tree. The injured individuals were rushed to hospitals in Wanaparthy and Kurnool for treatment.
