Accident – Death – Obituary News :

The Mysterious Case of Eric Mays: A Family Feud in Flint

Last month, the city of Flint was rocked by the sudden passing of Eric Mays, a long-time and highly respected member of the Flint City Council. However, what followed his death was a bizarre turn of events that has left the community reeling.

Allegations of Wrongdoing

Eric HaKeem Deontaye Mays, the councilman’s only child, has filed a lawsuit alleging that the Lawrence E. Moon Funeral Home and four of the late councilman’s siblings have engaged in fraudulent and conspiratorial activities regarding the handling of Mays’ remains.

A Family in Disarray

According to court documents, Mays passed away without leaving a will, leaving his son Eric as the sole next-of-kin with rights to decide on the handling of his remains. However, the lawsuit claims that two of Mays’ siblings falsely informed authorities that he had no children, while a third sibling who works at the funeral home misrepresented his legal authority to release the body.

A Legal Battle Unfolds

As a result, the Moon Funeral Home is currently in possession of Mays’ remains and has refused to release them to Eric, despite him providing the necessary documentation. Eric also alleges that the siblings have been soliciting donations from the community under false pretences, claiming to be the rightful next-of-kin.

Seeking Justice

Eric is now seeking legal recourse, asking a judge to cancel the funeral plans arranged by the Moon Funeral Home and to release his father’s remains to a funeral home of his choice. He is also seeking compensatory and punitive damages, as well as legal fees.

A Legacy Remembered

Eric Mays, who represented the First Ward on the Flint City Council, was remembered for his dedication and service to the community. His sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of many, as his legacy continues to be honoured by those who knew him.
