Accident – Death – Obituary News :

A suspected gang member from Santa Ana has been arrested and charged with two counts of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that left a 3-year-old girl injured while she was riding in the back seat of a car.

The Incident

Angel Castillo, 20, allegedly targeted the man seated in the front of the car, who is said to be the boyfriend of the girl’s mother. The shooting took place on February 25 at 15th and Spurgeon streets in Santa Ana.

According to Santa Ana Police Officer Natalie Garcia, the couple, along with the 3-year-old girl and a 4-year-old child, were in the vehicle when shots were fired at them. While the mother’s boyfriend was the intended victim, one of the bullets struck the trunk of the car and hit the young girl. Fortunately, no one else in the car was injured.

The Arrest

Castillo was apprehended on Thursday in Santa Fe Springs. In a statement released on Monday, Santa Ana police disclosed that he is facing two counts of attempted murder, as well as charges of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and committing the crime for the benefit of a street gang.

Police later discovered two bullet holes in the white sedan that the victims were driving at the time of the incident. Initially, it was mistakenly reported that the adults in the car were the girl’s parents, but Garcia clarified that the child’s father was not present during the shooting.

The Aftermath

After realising that the 3-year-old girl had been wounded, the couple rushed her to the Children’s Hospital of Orange County, where she is currently receiving treatment. Despite the traumatic experience, she is expected to make a full recovery.

As authorities continue their investigation into the shooting, the Santa Ana community remains on edge, grappling with the senseless violence that has affected an innocent child.
