A tragic incident unfolded in the quiet neighbourhood of Chikalthana, where a man took the life of his father-in-law in a fit of rage. The perpetrator, identified as Datta Rambhau Patole, committed this heinous act in front of all his relatives, including his own 12-year-old son. The victim, Suryabhan Fakirchand Rithe, was mercilessly stabbed to death during a domestic dispute that escalated to a fatal level.

The incident took place on a fateful Saturday midnight, sending shockwaves through the community of Chikalthana. Suryabhan, a resident of Dhangar Galli in the area, fell victim to the violent outburst of his son-in-law, Datta, from Pirbawada, Phulambri. The gruesome act unfolded in the presence of family members, leaving everyone in disbelief and horror.
History of Domestic Abuse
The root cause of this tragic event traces back to the troubled marriage between Suryabhan’s daughter, Sunita, and Datta. Married for 14 years, the couple’s relationship was marred by Datta’s abusive and alcoholic tendencies. Sunita had endured years of torment at the hands of her husband, seeking solace and protection from her father on numerous occasions.
Despite Suryabhan’s efforts to mediate and counsel Datta on his behaviour, the situation only worsened over time. Eventually, Sunita made the difficult decision to leave her marital home and seek refuge at her father’s house in Chikalthana, hoping for a fresh start away from the abuse.
Tragic Turn of Events
On that ill-fated night, Datta, accompanied by his young son and other relatives, descended upon Chikalthana to confront Sunita and demand her return. Suryabhan, in a bid to reason with his son-in-law, found himself embroiled in a heated argument that spiralled out of control. In a moment of blind rage, Datta fatally stabbed Suryabhan in the stomach, leaving him bleeding profusely in front of his loved ones.
The swift response of the Cidco MIDC police led to Datta’s arrest at the scene of the crime. The investigation into this senseless act of violence is ongoing under the supervision of PI Gautam Patare, as the community grapples with the shock and grief of losing a beloved member in such a tragic manner.
