A tragic incident occurred in Bandarban’s Ruma upazila this morning, resulting in the death of a 17-year-old girl and injuries to five others. The incident took place when a “Chander Gari” (locally modified passenger vehicle) overturned on a hilly road.

The deceased, identified as Ling A Khumi, was the daughter of Kuhai Khumi from Kayit Para in ward 9 of Sadar union.

According to Ruma Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Muhammad Shahjahan, the accident occurred around 9:00 am. Local reports suggest that the Chander Gari was en route from Samakhal Para to Ruma market when the driver lost control on the hilly terrain near Nazerat Para, leading to the vehicle hitting a roadside wall and overturning.

While Khumi tragically lost her life at the scene, five others sustained injuries in the incident. The injured individuals were promptly taken to Ruma Upazila Health Complex for medical attention.

At the health complex, four of the injured received treatment, while one critically wounded person was transferred to Bandarban Zilla Sadar Hospital, as confirmed by Mohammad Shawkat ul Ferdous, the health and family planning officer at the health complex.

The body of the deceased was later sent to the Ruma Upazila Health Complex morgue for autopsy procedures to be conducted.

Due to the challenging terrain of the hilly roads, authorities faced difficulties in seizing the overturned vehicle, and as a result, no case was filed in relation to the incident, mentioned the OC.
