Tragic Discovery in Agartala City

Agartala, the vibrant capital city of Tripura, was rocked by a disturbing incident recently. An 82-year-old paralysed woman, identified as Kalyani Sur Chowdhury, was rescued from a locked room in the city. The grim discovery was made when concerned neighbours alerted the authorities about a foul odour emanating from the house.

Details of the Incident

The deceased son of Kalyani, identified as Sudhir Sur, aged 54, was found inside the locked room in a decaying state. The mother-son duo had been living together in their residence in Shibnagar, Agartala for the past three years. Tragically, Sudhir’s wife had left him three years ago, leaving him as the sole caretaker of his elderly mother.

According to on-duty police officer Dulal Chandra Datta, the lady had been locked inside the room for eight days following the demise of her son. The police, accompanied by an executive magistrate, entered the residence and found Sudhir’s body on his bed. Kalyani, who was paralysed, was found in another room of the house and was promptly taken to a nearby health facility.

Alcohol Consumption and Tragic Circumstances

Several empty alcohol bottles were discovered in the room where Sudhir’s body was found, indicating a possible link to his demise. Neighbours informed the police that Sudhir had turned to alcohol after his separation from his spouse, leading to a decline in his health. The elderly lady, due to her critical health condition, was unable to move from the bed and was left stranded after her son’s death.

The incident has left the community in shock, highlighting the importance of checking in on elderly relatives and neighbours. The tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of Kalyani Sur Chowdhury and Sudhir Sur serve as a grim reminder of the vulnerability of those living alone in society.
