Ghaziabad: Tragedy struck at a factory’s construction site in Modinagar as a 24-year-old worker lost his life while two others sustained injuries after an iron mesh collapsed on Thursday. The victims, identified as Vishal, Prince (25), and Lalit (28), all residents of Hapur, were trapped under the debris before being rescued.
According to DCP Vivek Yadav, the incident occurred around 8 pm. “Vishal was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. Prince and Lalit are currently receiving treatment at a nearby medical facility,” he stated. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the victims had been working at the construction site and even sleeping there for the past few weeks. The tragic collapse of the iron mesh occurred while the workers were underneath it.”
Abhishek, Vishal’s brother, filed a complaint regarding the incident. “Lalit had coerced my brother into coming to Ghaziabad for work. Vishal was promised a daily wage of Rs 650, but Lalit was withholding his payment. Despite repeated requests for his salary, the contractors, Nadeem and Shahid, kept delaying it. They orchestrated my brother’s death and tried to pass it off as an accident,” he alleged.
An FIR has been lodged in Modinagar under IPC Section 302 (murder) in connection with the incident.

In Pune, a worker met with a tragic end when an iron rod fell on his head from a building under construction in Mundhwa. The landowners and building contractor were booked for negligence by the Mundhwa police for failing to implement safety measures.
In Dantewada, four labourers lost their lives in a mine collapse at the National Mineral Development Corporation in Kirandul. The victims hailed from Bengal and Bihar, underscoring the dangerous working conditions prevalent in the mining industry.
Meanwhile, a group of friends from Kolkata tragically perished in an accident on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway while returning from a wedding in Agra. The incident has left their families and loved ones in a state of shock and mourning.
These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and well-being of workers in hazardous work environments. Authorities and employers must prioritize implementing stringent safety measures to prevent such tragedies from reoccurring.
