Accident – Death – Obituary News : Coimbatore: A tragic incident occurred on Wednesday in Nachipalayam near Madukkarai, resulting in the accidental death of a 70-year-old farm worker named P Velusamy. Velusamy, who had been working at RK Thottam for the last four decades, was tasked with burning weeds and thickets at a 57-acre farmland owned by Sangeet Bagaria.

The farmland, filled with coconut trees and overgrown bushes, required clearing, and Velusamy was instructed by the farm supervisor, Shanmugam, to set a fire to accomplish the task. However, tragedy struck when Velusamy fell unconscious while working and was subsequently charred to death in the fire.

Concerned by Velusamy’s absence, his family went searching for him and discovered his charred body on the farm. The Madukkarai police were alerted, and an investigation was launched. Preliminary findings suggest that Velusamy likely lost consciousness due to smoke inhalation, leading to his tragic demise.

The police have registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC for accidental death and are conducting further investigations into the incident. Velusamy’s body was sent to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a postmortem examination before being handed over to his grieving family.
