Arrest Made in Cook County for Alleged Gun Incidents

An 18-year-old man from Hoffman Estates, Cook County, has been arrested this week for allegedly firing a gun in two separate incidents. The suspect, Jake A. Mateos, was taken into custody after a series of reports of shots fired in the area.

First Incident on Lakeview Lane and Western Street

The first incident occurred on Monday night around 10:50 p.m. Hoffman Estates police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of Lakeview Lane and Western Street. Upon arrival, officers found no victims, damaged property, or suspects at the scene.

Second Incident on Flagstaff Lane

Two days later, on Wednesday at approximately 9 p.m., police were called to the 200 block of Flagstaff Lane for another report of shots fired. Upon investigation, officers found five spent shell casings in the street but no victims or property damage.

Arrest of Suspect Jake A. Mateos

On Thursday afternoon, police were patrolling the area due to the recent shooting incidents when they noticed a suspicious individual near the intersection of Flagstaff Lane and Washington Boulevard. Upon questioning the person, officers discovered a firearm with an extended magazine and mounted laser light. The individual was identified as Jake A. Mateos and was subsequently taken into custody.

Charges and Court Appearance

Jake A. Mateos has been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues. Mateos is scheduled to appear in bond court on Saturday to face these charges.
