The Tragic Shooting Incident in Rural Jackson County
In a devastating turn of events, a Kansas City area man has been charged with multiple felonies for fatally shooting an Independence police officer and a 16th Circuit Court process server in rural Jackson County. The incident, which took place on North Elsea Smith Road, has left the community in shock.
Suspect Charged with Murder and Assault
Larry D. Acree, the suspect in question, has been charged with two counts of Murder in the 1st Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree for wounding a police officer, and three additional counts of Armed Criminal Action charges. Acree, who is currently hospitalized in intensive care, faces a $2 million bond and will be transferred to the Jackson County Detention Center once he is able.
Details of the Tragic Incident
According to court records, the process server, identified as Drexel Mack, had gone to the residence on North Elsea Smith Road to carry out an eviction. After knocking and announcing their presence, Mack was shot and fell to the floor inside the front entrance. Officer Cody Allen and other officers responded to the scene in an attempt to retrieve Mack, resulting in Officer Allen being fatally wounded and another officer sustaining injuries. Acree was eventually taken into custody after officers returned fire.
