Springfield Man Killed by Illinois State Police Trooper in McLean County

A Springfield man has been identified as the individual who was tragically killed by an Illinois State Police trooper on Interstate 55 in McLean County on a Saturday afternoon. The man, identified as 37-year-old Trayvon C. Little, reportedly pointed a firearm at one of the troopers before an exchange of gunfire took place.

Identity Revealed by McLean County Coroner’s Office

The identity of the deceased, Trayvon C. Little, was released by the McLean County coroner’s office on Wednesday. Little succumbed to multiple shotgun wounds at the scene of the incident.

Details of the Incident

Illinois State Police were initially called out to Interstate 55 northbound at milepost 178 near Lexington following reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, troopers encountered a person, now identified as Little, who pointed a firearm towards at least one of the officers and allegedly fired shots. This led to an exchange of gunfire between the individual and the officers on the scene.

A spokesperson for the Illinois State Police declined to comment on whether the individuals in the two vehicles involved were shooting at each other or if any arrests were made in connection with the incident.

Investigation Underway

Special agents from the Illinois State Police Division of Internal Investigation are currently investigating the shooting to determine the circumstances that led to the tragic outcome.
