Albuquerque – This afternoon at around 1:30PM, Albuquerque Police Department officers closely followed a stolen truck throughout the city, with the help of APD’s fixed-wing plane. The vehicle was eventually disabled by police at Broadway and Kathryn SE, leading to a dramatic turn of events. All of the suspect occupants fled from the stolen truck on foot, prompting a massive search operation by law enforcement.

Evacuation of San Jose Elementary School

Police could be seen closing off the area and setting up a perimeter to conduct a thorough search for the suspects. San Jose Elementary school, located nearby, was evacuated for safety precautions while police combed the area for the violent suspects. The tense situation unfolded as officers and tactical units scoured the vicinity for any sign of the fleeing individuals.

Arrest of Suspects

APD detectives and SWAT officers managed to arrest three men following a vehicle pursuit, during which the stolen truck rammed into a detective’s vehicle. The high-stakes chase came to a dramatic climax in the area of Broadway and Southern, where the suspects were finally apprehended.

Details of the Pursuit

APD Auto Theft detectives first spotted a stolen white Chrysler 300 in the vicinity of Gibson Blvd. and I-25 at 11:30 a.m. The pursuit intensified as additional detectives and APD’s Air Support tracked the vehicle to Delamar Ave and 2nd St., N.W., where passengers were dropped off at a separate Ford F-250 with a stolen license plate. One of the individuals, identified as Randy Lopez-Garcia, was known to have felony warrants for his arrest.

Arrest and Charges

The stolen truck, later discovered to be stolen out of Corrales, was driven by Gildardo Peralez, 28, who stopped multiple times to burglarize vehicles. Detectives used a vehicle-apprehension device to try to stop the stolen truck at Wyoming Blvd and Constitution Ave., N.E., but the suspects managed to escape on foot in the area of 1725 Broadway Blvd., S.E. Two of the suspects were arrested shortly after the pursuit, while the third was found hiding inside a market and was eventually taken into custody by SWAT officers.

Suspects Facing Charges

Randy Lopez-Garcia, 33, Gildardo Peralez, 28, and Andres Loya, 39, are now facing several charges relating to the stolen vehicles, fleeing from police officers, and outstanding arrest warrants. The swift action and coordination by APD led to the successful arrest of the suspects, ensuring the safety of the community.
