Trichy Student Drowns in Cauvery River
An 18-year-old student tragically drowned while swimming in the Cauvery river at Kambarasampettai in Trichy on Wednesday afternoon. The incident took place when the victim, J Deepan, along with four of his college friends, went to the check dam for a swim.
Details of the Incident
Deepan, a resident of Manickapuram in Palakkarai and a second-year student at an arts and science college in Trichy, found himself caught in the river’s strong currents. Despite his friends’ efforts, he was unable to stay afloat and tragically drowned in the river.
Rescue Operation
Upon receiving the distress call, the fire and rescue service personnel rushed to the spot to search for Deepan. After an extensive search, they were able to recover his lifeless body from the water. The body was then sent to the Mahatma Gandhi memorial government hospital (MGMGH) for postmortem examination.
