A man is now in police custody after authorities discovered nearly 1,500 cartons of stolen cigarettes in a rented truck in Atlanta. The incident took place in the Edgewood Retail District on Caroline Street NE, where officers from the Rockmart Police Department had been tracking a yellow Penske truck.

The Rockmart Police Department had received reports of a burglary involving the truck the night before, where 1,492 cartons of cigarettes were reported stolen. When Atlanta police officers arrived at the scene, they spotted a man wearing a pink sweatshirt and sweatpants near the truck. The man attempted to walk away upon seeing the officers but was apprehended shortly after.

Upon obtaining a search warrant, authorities discovered a total of 2,218 cartons of cigarettes inside the truck, with 1,492 of them matching the stolen items from the Rockmart burglary. Additionally, officers found ski masks and a pair of bolt cutters in the vehicle, raising suspicions of further criminal activity.

The suspect, identified as Deanthony Blocker, was found in possession of the truck’s keys and was subsequently charged with theft by receiving stolen property and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.

Authorities have not confirmed whether the remaining cartons of cigarettes found in the truck were also stolen. The investigation is ongoing, and more details are expected to emerge as the case progresses.
