Avtar Saini, aged 68, was a pivotal figure in the design of Intel microprocessors, including the iconic Pentium processor. Residing in Chembur, Saini was known for his contributions to the tech industry. His untimely demise has left a void in the community of cycling enthusiasts and tech professionals alike.

The Tragic Accident

As Saini cycled between Nerul Junction and the NRI-Seawoods signal, a cab collided with him from behind, causing him to sustain severe injuries. Despite being rushed to D.Y. Patil Hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries. Eyewitnesses from the cycling group recounted the horrifying scene as the cab driver attempted to flee the scene, dragging Saini’s bicycle for a kilometre.

Legal Action Taken

In the aftermath of the incident, Inspector Satish Kadam of NRI coastal police confirmed that the cab driver, identified as Hrishikesh Khade, has been booked for rash and negligent driving causing death. While Khade has not been arrested, he has been served a notice to cooperate in the investigation. Saini’s body has been sent for a postmortem examination as authorities seek justice for the tragic loss.
