Woman Fatally Shot in South Philadelphia in Suspected Domestic Incident
PHILADELPHIA – A tragic incident unfolded in South Philadelphia when a 31-year-old woman was shot and killed in what police believe to be a domestic incident. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on the 2300 block of South Marshall Street just before 7 p.m.
Details of the Incident
Prior to the shooting, the woman was walking with a man when they were ambushed by three suspects. One of the suspects grabbed the woman, while another held the man at gunpoint. The third suspect remained on his bike as a lookout. The suspect holding the woman then fired multiple shots at her before all three suspects fled the scene.
The woman was rushed to a local hospital but unfortunately succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival. Police suspect that the shooting may have stemmed from a previous domestic altercation, as the victim had been assaulted by a man just a week prior, resulting in hospitalization and visible bruises on her face.
Arrests Made
Following the shooting, two suspects, identified as 32-year-old Carey Jones and 35-year-old Sherman Carney, were apprehended after a brief foot pursuit on Ritner Street. Both suspects were charged with murder and related offenses, and a gun was recovered from each of them.
