Second Man Charged in Connection with Fatal Shooting Outside Overland Bar
A second man has been charged in connection with a shooting that took place outside an Overland bar, resulting in the death of one man and injuring another person. The incident occurred on February 2 at STL On The Rocks, located in the 10000 block of Page Avenue in St. Louis County.
Details of the Shooting
On the night of the incident, law enforcement officers responded to reports of a shooting outside the bar and found two individuals with gunshot wounds. Both victims were immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where one of them, identified as Rashad Redd, was tragically pronounced dead. The other victim survived the attack.
After reviewing surveillance footage from both inside and outside the bar, as well as speaking with witnesses present at the scene, investigators determined that a fight had broken out inside the establishment. Security personnel then intervened, moving everyone involved in the altercation outside where the fighting continued.
Identification of Suspects
Police investigations revealed that during the altercation in the parking lot, shots were fired by two individuals, Manuel Burgess and Melvin Fraction. Video evidence captured the moment when both men discharged their firearms in the direction of Redd and the surviving victim.
While Fraction was arrested and charged earlier in the month, Burgess was taken into custody on February 26 for his alleged involvement in the shooting.
Charges and Legal Proceedings
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has formally charged Burgess with second-degree murder, armed criminal action, and unlawful possession of a firearm. Following his arrest, Burgess was remanded to jail without bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 5 for a bond reduction hearing.
As the legal proceedings continue, authorities are working diligently to ensure that justice is served in light of this tragic and senseless act of violence that took place outside STL On The Rocks.
