Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County Mother Charged After Abandoning Child at Salon
A mother in Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County, is facing charges after allegedly abandoning her young child at a hair salon and not being located until the following day. The incident took place on Sunday evening in the 300 block of South Main Street, where concerned employees contacted the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Rasheedah Fields, a 42-year-old resident of Wilkes-Barre, entered the salon around 2:00 p.m. with her 2-3-year-old daughter to get her hair done. After her appointment, Fields left the salon, stating she was going outside for a cigarette. However, she never returned, leaving her child behind. The salon employees provided the child with snacks and beverages while attempting to locate the mother.
When Fields could not be located, the police were called, and the child was taken into protective custody by Luzerne County Children and Youth Services. Fields was later identified as the child’s mother when police responded to a domestic disturbance at a home on Dana Street the following morning.
Charges and Court Proceedings
Upon police intervention, Fields exhibited signs of alcohol consumption and admitted to taking ecstasy during what she described as a four-day binge. She expressed confusion about her daughter’s whereabouts, leading to her identification as the child’s mother. Fields was subsequently charged with endangering the welfare of children and released on $10,000 bail after posting bond.
