Three individuals, including a 14-year-old, have been apprehended following a harrowing armed home invasion robbery that took place in Brampton. Peel Regional Police have reported that the incident occurred in the early hours of the morning on Nov. 28, 2023, at a residence located near McLaughlin Road and Queen Street.
Suspects Conceal Identities and Demand Property
During the robbery, four suspects allegedly entered the home while the occupants were present. The perpetrators wore disguises to conceal their identities and proceeded to demand property and money from the homeowners. Fortunately, the victims did not sustain any physical injuries during the ordeal.
Police Identify and Apprehend Three Suspects
Following an intensive investigation, authorities were able to identify three suspects linked to the armed home invasion robbery. Search warrants were executed at three different residences, leading to the discovery of property associated with the crime.
The two adult male suspects have been identified as 21-year-old Nanayaw Kwarten and 19-year-old Mark Obohat, both hailing from Mississauga. Kwarten faces a slew of charges, including robbery, disguise with intent, and multiple counts of failing to comply with a release order. Obohat, on the other hand, has been charged with robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of property obtained through criminal means.
Teenager Among Those Charged
In a surprising twist, a 14-year-old from Mississauga has also been implicated in the robbery. The young individual, whose identity remains protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), faces charges of robbery, disguise with intent, and possession of stolen property.
Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation
All three suspects made appearances in court on Feb. 23, 2024, to answer to their charges. The investigation is still ongoing, with authorities actively seeking a fourth suspect believed to be involved in the crime. It is anticipated that additional charges will be laid in connection with the armed home invasion robbery.
