Kenneth Chesebro’s Deceptive Actions Could Lead to Felony Charges, Experts Warn

Michigan prosecutors are facing a new challenge in their investigation into former President Donald Trump’s Jan. 6 fake elector scheme, as it has been revealed that right-wing attorney Kenneth Chesebro concealed a secret Twitter account that could put him at “great legal risk,” according to law professors.

Chesebro, a key architect of Trump’s election subversion scheme, denied the existence of a Twitter account or any “alternate IDs” when questioned by Michigan prosecutors. However, CNN’s K-FILE uncovered a secret account, BadgerPundit, that was linked to Chesebro based on matching details such as biographical information and posts that contradicted his statements to investigators.

The posts on BadgerPundit revealed that Chesebro promoted a more aggressive election subversion strategy before the election and criticized his own actions in interviews with prosecutors. Chesebro’s attorneys confirmed that the account belonged to him but argued that it was separate from his legal work for Trump’s campaign.

Conflicting Statements and Legal Peril

Chesebro claimed to Michigan prosecutors that the fake elector plot was a contingency plan in case Trump’s team won election lawsuits. However, BadgerPundit’s tweets suggested a different strategy, indicating that Republican-controlled state legislatures could appoint their own electors regardless of court decisions.

While Chesebro’s attorneys acknowledged the conflict between his statements and the tweets, legal experts warned that his deceptive actions could jeopardize his cooperation agreement with prosecutors. Chesebro has already pleaded guilty in a RICO case in Georgia and was identified as an unindicted co-conspirator in a federal election subversion case in D.C.

Legal Experts Sound the Alarm

Law professor Ryan Goodman of New York University suggested that Chesebro may have committed the crime of making false statements to investigators by concealing the Twitter account. Goodman warned that Chesebro’s entire cooperation agreement could collapse as a result.

CNN legal analyst Elie Honig, a former federal prosecutor, criticized Chesebro’s misleading statements and argued that he is not a viable cooperator for prosecutors in Georgia. Honig described Chesebro’s defense as “utterly nonsensical” and suggested that his legal troubles are far from over.

Predictions of More Trouble Ahead

Harvard legal scholar Laurence Tribe predicted that “more indictments await” following the revelation of Chesebro’s secret Twitter account. Tribe suggested that Chesebro could face serious felony charges in Michigan and additional federal indictments in the future.

As the investigation into Chesebro’s actions continues, legal experts and prosecutors are closely monitoring the developments to determine the full extent of his involvement in Trump’s election subversion scheme.
