Man Arrested After Drag Racing and High-Speed Chase in Florence, South Carolina

A man from Florence, South Carolina, found himself in hot water after being involved in a series of dangerous activities that led to his arrest by law enforcement officers. The incident, which took place on February 22, involved drag racing and a high-speed chase that ended in a crash with a deputy.

The Florence County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies attempted to stop a driver suspected of drag racing on Second Loop Road. Instead of complying with the flashing blue lights, the driver, later identified as 34-year-old Jamelle Rashad Goodman, Sr., decided to flee the scene, leading deputies on a high-speed pursuit from Second Loop Road onto Edisto Drive.

The chase came to a dramatic end when Goodman crashed into another deputy’s vehicle at the intersection of Palmetto Street, approximately 2 miles from where the pursuit had begun. After the crash, Goodman attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended by deputies shortly thereafter.

Following the collision, the injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released on February 23. The current status of the deputy’s condition and ability to return to duty has not been disclosed.

Upon searching Goodman, law enforcement officers discovered what is believed to be methamphetamine and cocaine in his possession. Goodman now faces charges of trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute cocaine, racing on a public road, failure to stop for a blue light with great bodily harm, and resisting arrest.

In addition to these charges, Goodman was also charged with driving under suspension (second offense) and open container of beer or wine in a motor vehicle. His bond has been set at $31,533 for all combined charges, and he is scheduled to appear in court on April 25.

The investigation into the crash is being handled by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, while the other incidents are under the jurisdiction of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office.
