Last summer, in the bustling town of Dolton, Illinois, a tragic incident unfolded on the busy I-94 highway. The peaceful evening was shattered by the sound of gunshots, leading to a fatal two-car crash that left the community in shock.
A Deadly Encounter on the Bishop Ford Freeway
On August 28, 2023, the Illinois State Police were called to the scene of a devastating crash on the northbound lanes of I-94 near Dolton Road. Two mangled vehicles lay abandoned along the concrete median, marking the aftermath of a deadly expressway shooting.
The Victim and the Suspect
Among the wreckage was 30-year-old Travon Mackie from Chicago, the driver of the Toyota Camry. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he tragically succumbed to his injuries. The alleged perpetrator, Calvin Woods, 32, was identified as one of the occupants of the Audi A4 involved in the incident.
Arrest and Legal Proceedings
Following an intensive investigation involving the FBI and U.S. Marshals Service, Calvin Woods was apprehended on February 22. He now faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deadly shooting on the Bishop Ford Freeway. Woods is currently being held at the Cook County Detention Center awaiting his pre-trial detention hearing.
