EDMOND, Okla. — The nation mourns the loss of Nex Benedict, a 16-year-old nonbinary teenager who tragically passed away following a violent altercation at Owasso High School in Oklahoma.
According to reports, Benedict, who used they/them pronouns, was targeted by three girls in a school bathroom, leading to a physical confrontation. The incident left Benedict feeling unsafe and vulnerable, as they faced relentless bullying from their peers.
The day after the altercation, Benedict’s mother called emergency services to their home, reporting shallow breathing and other concerning symptoms. Despite efforts to save them, Benedict succumbed to their injuries, sparking a wave of vigils and memorials across the country.
