Accident – Death – Obituary News :
SAN JOSE, Calif. – A woman took off with an Amazon delivery van in Palo Alto because she urgently needed to get back to San Jose, Palo Alto police revealed.
The bizarre incident unfolded on a Thursday afternoon around 3:35 p.m. in the 400 block of West Charleston Road when an Amazon driver left the vehicle unattended with the keys in the ignition and the engine running while making a delivery.
Detectives collaborating with Amazon dispatchers traced the stolen van to an Amazon facility in the 900 block of McLaughlin Ave. in San Jose. There, the alleged thief, identified as 36-year-old Elena Flores, was apprehended without any resistance.
The driver, a man in his thirties, recounted spotting his work van driving away as it executed a U-turn on West Charleston Road, heading southbound on El Camino Real.
Fortunately, no packages were pilfered and were all present and correct. A San Jose native, Flores is not affiliated with Amazon and informed authorities that she simply needed to return to San Jose.
She was formally charged with vehicle theft, a felony, and committing a felony while out on bail for another felony. Flores was subsequently booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail.
