Police Officer and Medic Attacked During Welfare Check in Valley Stream, Long Island

A Nassau County police officer and medic were both assaulted during a welfare check in Valley Stream, Long Island on Sunday afternoon, according to authorities.

The incident took place at around 1:30 p.m. when officers responded to a call for a welfare check on a woman identified as 43-year-old Brigitte Atta-Poku. Upon arrival, the officers determined that Atta-Poku required medical treatment and evaluation.

However, the situation quickly escalated as Atta-Poku became violent and aggressive, first hitting an officer and then biting a police medic. In a shocking turn of events, her son, 23-year-old Manai Frank, then allegedly attacked the medic by pushing him.

Arrests Made Following the Violent Incident

Both the officer and the medic sustained injuries during the altercation and were subsequently transported to a local hospital for treatment, as reported by authorities.

Atta-Poku and Frank were arrested at the scene and now face charges of assault. Additionally, Atta-Poku has been charged with resisting arrest in connection with the incident.

The community of Valley Stream was left in shock by the violent turn of events that unfolded during what was meant to be a routine welfare check.
