Over the weekend, a devastating avalanche took place near Castle Mountain ski resort in the Alberta Rockies, close to the British Columbia border. The incident resulted in the tragic death of a 46-year-old man from Magrath, Alberta, who was snowmobiling with another adult male and two children at the time.

Avalanche Strikes

The avalanche occurred at around 1:00 p.m. local time on Saturday, trapping the man under the snow. While the two children managed to escape with one of the adult males, the victim was unable to free himself from the dangerous situation.

Search and Rescue Efforts

Authorities were alerted to the avalanche at 5:22 p.m. on Saturday by the surviving adult male. Due to the approaching darkness, search and rescue operations were postponed until daylight on Sunday. The search involved teams from Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek RCMP, Southwestern Alberta Regional Search and Rescue, as well as a K9 unit from Fernie Search and Rescue and Alberta Conservation.

The search efforts proved successful when the body of the missing snowmobiler was recovered just before 1:30 p.m. on Sunday. The entire community is mourning the loss of the man and offering condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
