Teen Charged in Slaying of Pontiac Man Following String of Violent Incidents
It has been five months since the tragic slaying of Robert Wayne Lee II, also known as “Boopac Shakur,” shook the community of Pontiac. Lee, a man known for his efforts to catch child predators, was gunned down at Universal Coney Island in Pontiac last September at the age of 40.
Charges Filed Against 17-Year-Old Suspect
After a thorough investigation by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office, a 17-year-old has been charged with Lee’s slaying and related weapons crimes. The alleged shooter, who was 16 at the time of the killing, is facing charges of homicide, felony firearm, and carrying a concealed weapon. Although the shooting was not believed to be connected to Lee’s sting operations, the decision to charge the teenager was based on a careful review of all available information.
Details of the Fatal Incident
On the night of September 29, 2023, Lee entered the restaurant and was caught on surveillance video engaging in a physical altercation with the alleged shooter, who was seated with an 18-year-old friend. The video footage shows the defendant pulling out a semi-automatic firearm and firing multiple rounds at Lee, fatally injuring him. Law enforcement responded to the scene, and Lee was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Additional Charges in Separate Incident
Furthermore, the 17-year-old suspect is also facing charges in connection with another shooting that took place on September 20, 2023, outside a Pontiac supermarket. In this incident, the teenager allegedly drove up to a parking lot where two men were fighting, exited his vehicle, and began shooting. He was subsequently charged with assault with intent to murder and felony firearm.
