Teenage Boy Charged in Crash That Resulted in Infant’s Death in West Garfield Park

LONDON (CBS) – A teenage boy has been charged in connection with a tragic incident that occurred in West Garfield Park, resulting in the death of a 6-month-old boy and injuries to three others. The 16-year-old suspect was apprehended by Chicago police and members of the U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force in the 5100 block of South Wentworth Avenue. He faces three felony charges of reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, aggravated reckless driving, and possession of a stolen vehicle.

The young driver was identified as the individual responsible for a devastating crash that took place on April 16, 2023, on West Washington Avenue. Operating a stolen Hyundai Sonata at a high rate of speed, the teenager disregarded a traffic light and collided with a white pickup truck carrying a family.

Tragically, the crash claimed the life of six-month-old Cristian Uvidia. The mother, a 34-year-old woman who was driving, sustained serious injuries. Additionally, a girl and a teenager were also hospitalized as a result of the collision.

Prior to this latest development, two other boys aged 14 and 17 had been charged with criminal trespass to a vehicle, a misdemeanor offence.
