Dramatic LAPD Shootout in Skid Row Apartment

DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has released dramatic video footage of a shootout involving officers and a man barricaded inside an apartment in the Skid Row area of downtown Los Angeles.

The incident took place on East 5th Street on February 20, when officers responded to a report from a woman who claimed her neighbor had brandished a firearm and made threats against her.

The video shows the man opening his apartment door and firing multiple shots in the direction of the officers before retreating back inside. Fortunately, no one was injured during the exchange of gunfire.

After a tense standoff, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Anthony Franks, surrendered to police without further incident. Investigators later discovered that the weapon used by Franks was a projectile launcher designed to resemble a semi-automatic pistol, capable of firing .50 caliber rubber balls.

Upon searching Franks’ apartment, officers recovered a jar of .50 caliber rubber balls and a Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
