Tragic Incident on the River Thames

A body recovered from the River Thames on Monday has been identified as Abdul Ezedi, who tragically drowned, according to a statement from the Metropolitan Police.

Ezedi, an Afghan refugee, was involved in a harrowing attack in Clapham last month where his former girlfriend and her young children were doused with a corrosive chemical. Fortunately, his former girlfriend is now in stable condition and recovering in the hospital.

Identification and Investigation

The post-mortem examination was conducted at Poplar Mortuary, and Ezedi’s body was formally identified on Thursday. Police believe that Ezedi threw a burning chemical on his former girlfriend before fleeing the scene.

He was later spotted on CCTV footage using his bank card on the Tube before walking along the banks of the River Thames. The investigation revealed that Ezedi had jumped into the river.

Discovery of the Body

On Monday, a passing boat crew reported sighting a body near Tower Bridge at Tower Pier. The body was recovered by the Metropolitan Police’s Marine Policing Unit with assistance from the London Fire Brigade.

Friends of the victim’s family are fundraising to support the woman and her two daughters during this difficult time. The woman is determined to recover and be reunited with her children.

Support for the Family

The family’s friends released a statement saying, “Mum is still in critical care and eager to be back with her girls. She has lost sight in one eye, and we are hoping for a full recovery in the other eye. She is a strong and independent mother who is making progress every day.”

This tragic incident has deeply affected the community, and the investigation is ongoing to bring justice to those involved. The Metropolitan Police is urging anyone with information to come forward to help with the case.
