Denver Police Continue Search for Former Funeral Home Owner

Denver authorities are still on the lookout for Miles Harford, the former funeral home owner wanted for investigation of abuse of a corpse, forgery, and theft. The Denver Police Department (DPD) confirmed that Harford has not been arrested yet, despite an arrest warrant being issued on Feb. 16.

Discovery of Human Remains and Cremains

The case unfolded on Feb. 6 when Denver Sheriff’s Department deputies went to a property on the 2500 block of S. Quitman Street for an eviction. It was there that they discovered a woman’s remains and the cremains of at least 30 other individuals. The property had been previously rented by Harford, who had vacated the premises when the eviction took place.

Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the deceased woman, a 63-year-old who had passed away in August 2022, had been kept in a hearse on the property since her death. The Denver Medical Examiner’s Office (OME) and DPD were called to the scene, where they also found additional cremains inside the hearse.

Harford’s Troubled Past

Authorities learned that Harford had owned Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services in Littleton, which operated from 2012 until its closure in September 2022. Financial difficulties plagued the business, leading to Harford being unable to provide cremains to families as promised. In some instances, incorrect cremains were given to families for services.

Harford had accrued significant debts with local cremators, resulting in severed relationships with those providers. It was also discovered that he had struggled to find a crematory to process the deceased woman’s body found on the property.

Appeal for Information

Denver Police have issued a Metro Denver Crime Stoppers alert, urging the public to come forward with any information that could lead to Harford’s arrest. Individuals with information on his whereabouts are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Anyone who had dealings with Apollo Funeral and Cremation Services and did not receive the cremains of their loved one, or had a concerning experience with the company, is asked to reach out to the Denver Police Major Crimes Division and Denver Police Victim Assistance Unit at 720-913-6610. Anonymous tips can also be provided to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities work to identify and return the cremains to their rightful families. Denver Police remain vigilant in their search for Miles Harford, the former funeral home owner at the center of this disturbing case.
