Exciting Capture of Stolen Vehicle in Kearney

On a chilly Thursday morning in Kearney, a dramatic incident unfolded as officers from the Kearney Police Department sprung into action. Just after 3:00 a.m., the Flock Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras alerted the officers of a stolen vehicle from Colorado being present in Kearney.

The swift response of the KPD officers led them to a gas station at the intersection of 11th street and 2nd Avenue, where they apprehended the stolen vehicle and its driver. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Wikeman Alexander Perez-Perez from Chicago, attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured by the vigilant officers.

Multiple Charges and Seized Items

Following a brief struggle, Perez-Perez was arrested and taken to Buffalo County Jail on a slew of charges, including Felony Assault on an Officer x2, Possession of Stolen Property, Obstruction of a Police Officer, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Impersonation. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the vehicle had been stolen during an armed home robbery in Denver, Colorado.

Inside the stolen vehicle, officers uncovered multiple loaded handguns, several stolen and fake identification documents, and other stolen property. The successful apprehension of the suspect and recovery of the stolen items were made possible by the strategic placement of Flock ALPR cameras throughout Kearney and Buffalo County.

Technological Advancements in Law Enforcement

The use of ALPR technology enhances traditional policing methods, enabling KPD to respond swiftly to emerging threats and criminal activities within the community. The cooperation between law enforcement agencies, coupled with advanced technology, underscores KPD’s commitment to proactive crime prevention and ensuring public safety.

By leveraging the power of ALPRs and collaborating with other law enforcement entities, KPD continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of proactive crime-fighting methods. The seamless coordination between officers and cutting-edge technology in this incident potentially prevented harm and danger to the residents of Kearney.
