Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a tragic incident that has shocked the residents of Chavarcode near Varkala, the decomposed and mutilated body of a retired naval officer was discovered in a rubber plantation on Monday night. The body, partially eaten by stray dogs, has been identified as that of Ajith Devadas, a 58-year-old resident of Gangalayam.

Discovery of the Body

The Parippally police have registered a case in connection with the incident. According to the authorities, the body was found by locals after a foul smell emanated from the area. It was evident that the dogs had eaten part of the body below the waist, indicating that the body had been lying there for some time.

Missing Person Report

Police revealed that Devadas had gone missing on January 25 from his residence after he allegedly attacked his wife, Dhanya, with a machete. Dhanya sustained minor injuries and was discharged from the hospital the following day. It is suspected that Devadas died by suicide, as his body was found hanging from a mango tree in his rubber plantation, which is located close to his house.

Family Troubles

Inspector of Police K Kannan stated, “He had some issues with his wife. Last month, he attacked his wife, and a case was registered against him. However, he has been missing since then. Though the body has been identified, a DNA test needs to be conducted to confirm his identity.”

Chavarkode ward member Vijayan also commented on the situation, saying that there were ongoing issues between Devadas and his wife that may have prompted him to take such an extreme step.

Family Background

Devadas, who had recently returned from the Gulf, came from a wealthy and well-known family. The couple’s two sons are settled in Canada, leaving Devadas and Dhanya alone in their troubled relationship.

Investigations Ongoing

The family is expected to receive the body on Wednesday, following the completion of the post-mortem examination. Blood samples from Devadas’s brother have been collected for a DNA test to confirm the identity of the deceased. Police are continuing their investigations into the circumstances surrounding Devadas’s death.
