Tragic Residential Fire Claims Life of Iowa Woman

QUASQUETON, Iowa (KCRG) – In the early hours of February 18th, 2024, tragedy struck the small town of Quasqueton, Iowa. Emergency crews were called to the 700 block of E Cedar Street to respond to a residential fire.

Upon arrival, a Deputy found the home engulfed in flames, with onlookers pointing to a window where the fire originated. Concerned for the safety of the female resident who lived in that bedroom, the Deputy attempted to gain entry but was hindered by the intense heat and smoke.

Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and were able to contain the blaze. Tragically, they discovered the lifeless body of 69-year-old Kathryn Marie Crawford inside the residence. Despite their best efforts, she could not be revived.

The cause of the fire remains a mystery as investigators work tirelessly to piece together what led to this devastating event in the tight-knit community of Quasqueton.
