Tragic Accident Unfolds on Riviera Maya Highway
Authorities in Riviera Maya, Q.R. are currently investigating a devastating accident that took place on Sunday, resulting in the loss of six lives. The incident occurred on a stretch of highway near the popular tourist destination of Playa del Carmen.
Contradictory Evidence Emerges
New video footage has emerged, shedding light on the moments leading up to the tragic crash. The footage, captured by a security camera inside a company transport van, shows the driver parked and eating before being struck by another vehicle.
This evidence contradicts initial reports from the State Attorney General’s Office, which cited adverse weather conditions as a contributing factor to the accident.
Details of the Crash
The collision involved a van and an SUV carrying a group of Argentinian tourists. The van driver, identified as Freddy Omar Quijano Carrillo, was the sole occupant of the vehicle and tragically lost his life in the crash.
The passengers in the SUV, who were on a sightseeing tour of the area, did not know each other prior to the trip. The group had hired the services of a private driver to explore the region.
Victims Identified
The victims have been named as Nahuel López, Sibella Hernan Ezequiel, Silvia Díaz Vanesa Paola, Amengual Geronimo, and Maximiliano Nicolás Laviano, all of Argentine nationality. Additionally, two survivors, a 30-year-old man, and a 23-year-old woman, are currently receiving medical treatment in separate hospitals.

State Secretary Cristina Torres Gómez confirmed that the State Attorney General’s Office is actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident. The community is reeling from the loss of life and the shocking events that unfolded on the Riviera Maya highway.
