In a tragic turn of events, the body of a missing man from Chicago has been discovered in Lake Michigan. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body belongs to 21-year-old Elijah Looper, who went missing in November 2023. Looper was last seen at a non-profit organization in Chicago that works with young adults facing various challenges, including housing and mental health issues.
Discovery of the Body
On Valentine’s Day, a resident of Ganges Township, Michigan, Sally Tyler, made a shocking discovery while enjoying her morning coffee. She spotted a body floating in the lake on a private beach off of Lakeshore Drive between West Side County Park and Pier Cove Park. The body was later identified as Elijah Looper.
According to Tyler, she initially thought the figure on the beach was an animal until she realized it was a human body. She immediately called the police after confirming her suspicions.
Details of the Incident
Looper’s body was found completely unclothed, with the exception of a pair of brown Converse All Star shoes/boots in size 12. The Allegan County Sheriff’s Office has stated that there is no evidence of foul play in Looper’s death. The medical examiner’s office is currently working on a comprehensive report to determine the cause of death.
