Man Allegedly Chases and Slaughters His Estranged Wife in Juja, Kiambu County
In a horrifying turn of events in the Mirimaini area of Juja, Kiambu County, a man allegedly chased and slaughtered his estranged wife in broad daylight as a mob watched helplessly. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, February 17, left the community in shock and disbelief.
Details of the Incident
According to witnesses and police reports, the man, whose identity has not been disclosed, approached his estranged wife while she was visiting a neighbour in the Mirimaini area. He then pulled out a knife and a machete from a bag he was carrying and viciously attacked the woman, stabbing her in the neck.
Despite the woman’s desperate attempts to seek refuge in her friend’s house and scream for help, she was overpowered by the assailant. The man pursued her into the house, where he locked the door before continuing his brutal attack.
Neighbours intervened, but it was too late. The suspect, in a bid to evade justice, attempted to take his own life by stabbing himself in the stomach and chest. Police officers from Juja police station responded to a distress call, arrested the assailant, and rushed him to Gatundu Hospital for treatment.
Community Response and Investigation
The residents of Mirimaini area were left traumatised by the incident, with many expressing shock and horror at the brutal murder. Police commander Michael Muchiri stated that the motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
It was revealed that the couple had been separated for some time and had unresolved domestic issues. This tragic incident comes amidst a concerning trend of increased murders in the country, with a significant number of victims being female.
Police have since established a special squad to address the rising cases of murder, with up to 30 incidents involving women recorded in the past two months alone. The community is calling for justice and swift action to prevent further tragedies.
As the investigation continues, the body of the deceased has been moved to General Kago Funeral Parlour, while the murder weapons, a kitchen knife and a panga stained with blood, have been recovered from the scene.
