Salt Lake City Court Sentences Shooter in 2021 South Jordan Homicide

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 17, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The sentencing of the shooter in the 2021 homicide at a South Jordan party after two fist fights has been finalized with a prison term that could potentially last a lifetime.

A 3rd District Court judge has handed down a sentence of 15 years to life for Anthony Dominic Rendon, the individual responsible for the murder of 19-year-old Kelly Glaubensklee, as announced by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.

Rendon, who was 18 at the time of the tragic incident, has been given the 15 years to life term for first-degree felony murder and an additional three to five years for one count of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, to be served consecutively.

Moreover, Rendon has also received sentences of three to five years for each of the remaining nine counts of third-degree felony discharge of a firearm, all to be served concurrently with the initial charges.

Expressing gratitude for the judge’s decision, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill stated, “We appreciate Judge Pettit considering the gravity of the crimes committed by the defendant and the danger he posed to our entire community when she sentenced him to a minimum of nearly 20 years in prison.”

Rendon was apprehended at his family’s residence in West Jordan just two days after the fatal shooting took place on June 6, 2021.

Details of the Occurrence

Rendon’s charging documents revealed that at 1:57 a.m. on that fateful Sunday, South Jordan police responded to a call regarding a fight in progress with shots being fired at 1472 W. 11400 South.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered a large gathering of individuals at a residential property hosting a party where the tragic incident unfolded.

Witnesses recounted that multiple altercations took place, including physical fights and altercations involving a firearm. The situation escalated when Rendon, seated in a bright blue vehicle, brandished a firearm and discharged it, resulting in the fatal shooting of Kelly Glaubensklee.

Despite efforts to save Glaubensklee’s life, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident. The shooter, identified as Anthony Dominic Rendon, was seen leaning out of the vehicle window and firing shots, leading to the tragic outcome.

Multiple pieces of evidence, including witness statements and video recordings, were crucial in establishing Rendon’s involvement in the crime.
