Man Arrested After Auto-Pedestrian Accident in Salt Lake City

A 24-year-old man was apprehended by Salt Lake City police in the early hours of Saturday morning following an auto-pedestrian collision. The incident took place at 936 S. 300 West in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the individual, identified as Julian Navarrete, was driving under the influence when he struck a pedestrian. After the collision, Navarrete attempted to flee the scene on foot, leaving the victim pinned against a wall by the vehicle.

Quick Police Response

Police were alerted to the incident at 12:09 a.m. and quickly arrived at the location. Witnesses who had pursued Navarrete managed to detain him until law enforcement could take over. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital with a broken femur and a significant laceration to the same leg.

Signs of Intoxication

Upon apprehension, officers noted that Navarrete exhibited signs of intoxication. His breath smelled of alcohol, his eyes were watery and bloodshot, and his speech was slurred. Subsequently, a warrant was obtained to draw his blood for further testing.

Resisting Arrest

However, Navarrete resisted the blood draw, leading officers to employ a reasonable amount of force to complete the procedure. He was eventually taken into custody and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on charges including driving under the influence, failure to remain at the scene of an accident involving injury, and obstruction of justice.

The incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of staying at the scene of an accident to assist those in need. Salt Lake City police continue to investigate the matter to ensure justice is served for the victim.
