Arrest Made Near Scene of Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Rally Shooting

Jose Castillo, 36, was taken into custody close to the scene outside Union Station in downtown Kansas City, Missouri following the shooting at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally. While police have not connected Castillo to the shooting, he does face a firearm charge.

Hero or Accomplice?

Friends and family of Jose Castillo are speaking out, claiming that he should be hailed as a hero rather than being behind bars. The arrest of Castillo came in the aftermath of the tragic incident that claimed the life of Lisa Lopez Galvin and left 22 others injured.

Witnesses and victims have been eagerly awaiting answers in the wake of the shooting. Emily Tavis, a victim of the shooting, described the harrowing moment when she saw a man draw a gun and open fire on the crowd at the rally.

Bryan Wayne, who captured the moment of Castillo’s arrest on camera, expressed confusion as to why Castillo was tackled and taken into custody. Prior to the discovery of charging documents detailing Castillo’s arrest, only two juveniles had been mentioned as remaining in custody in connection with the incident.

Controversial Arrest

According to charging documents, Castillo, who has a previous felony conviction for marijuana possession, was charged with illegal possession of a firearm. However, Castillo and a witness listed in the charging document maintain that the gun, a Glock 22 handgun, did not belong to Castillo.

Castillo explained to authorities that he stumbled upon the gun on the ground after the shooting and intended to turn it in to the police. His friend reiterated that Castillo was simply trying to help in the chaotic aftermath of the shooting.

Legal Proceedings

Despite Castillo’s claims of innocence, he is currently being held on a $25,000 bond. He is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition, consuming alcohol, or using controlled substances unless lawfully prescribed. A bond review hearing is scheduled for 10 days from now.

As the investigation into the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl rally shooting continues, Castillo’s arrest remains a controversial and divisive topic among those involved in the tragic event.
