Two teenagers are now facing charges in connection with the tragic mass shooting that occurred at the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade. The incident, which took place on Wednesday, resulted in the death of a mother of two and left 22 people injured, half of whom are children under the age of 16.

Details of the Charges

The youths have been charged with gun-related crimes and resisting arrest. According to reports from the Kansas City Star, the shooting was the result of a dispute and was not related to terrorism or extremism. The suspects are currently in custody, but their ages and names have not been released by investigators.

Authorities have stated that additional charges are expected as the investigation by the Kansas City Police Department continues. Initially, a third person was detained but later released after it was determined that they were not involved in the shooting. Police found several firearms at the scene and are still looking into the roles other individuals may have played in the lead-up to the violence.

Heroic Actions of Parade-Goers

During the chaos, a parade-goer named Trey Filter tackled one of the suspects, with the help of another man, Paul Contreras. Filter described the intense moment to Good Morning America, explaining how he apprehended the juvenile suspect as he ran past. Filter’s wife, Casey, also played a crucial role in disarming the suspect. Thankfully, the couple’s young sons, aged 12 and 15, who were with them at the parade, were unharmed.

Video footage captured the heroic actions of Filter and Contreras as they subdued the suspect, preventing further harm from being done. Sadly, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a DJ for local radio station KKFI, was identified as the lone fatality in the shooting.

Community Mourning the Loss

KKFI released a statement expressing their deep sadness over the loss of Lopez-Galvan, describing her as a beloved member of the community. The station highlighted her contributions as the host of the show “Taste of Tejano” and emphasized the impact her death has had on the Kansas City community.

Of the 11 children injured in the shooting, nine were hospitalized with gunshot wounds. Fortunately, all but one have been released from the hospital and are expected to make a full recovery. The tragic incident has left the community in mourning and seeking justice for the victims.
