Stolen Truck Hits Florida Highway Patrol Trooper in Orange County

In a dramatic turn of events, a stolen truck struck a Florida Highway Patrol trooper along State Road 528 in Orange County, Florida. The incident took place on Thursday morning, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Discovery of the Stolen Truck

According to the FHP, the trooper first noticed a white lawn truck near mile marker 4 around 6:48 a.m. The truck was driving without tail lights, prompting the trooper to initiate a traffic stop. However, the vehicle quickly switched lanes and began swerving erratically, putting other drivers at risk.

Chase and Collision

As the trooper tried to pull over the stolen truck, it aggressively swerved, ultimately striking the trooper’s patrol car. A high-speed chase ensued, with the truck hitting several other vehicles along the roadway before crashing through a chain link fence of an abandoned property near Interstate 4.

Arrest of the Suspect

The driver of the stolen truck, identified as Kais Kaheel, 28, from New Port Richey, fled on foot after crashing into a brick wall in a parking lot. Law enforcement officers quickly apprehended Kaheel, who was found to have a suspended driver’s license and a set of burglary tools in the truck.

Legal Consequences

Kaheel faces multiple charges, including grand theft of a motor vehicle, fleeing and eluding an officer, operating a vehicle with a revoked driver’s license, and leaving the scene of a crash. The discovery of the stolen truck’s license plate inside the vehicle confirmed that the truck had been stolen earlier in the week.

The report also revealed that Kaheel admitted to being under the influence of fentanyl and feeling dizzy at the time of the incident. He was taken to the hospital for treatment before being arrested.

This shocking incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and the importance of law enforcement in ensuring public safety on the roads of Orange County, Florida.
