Police Hunt for Suspects After Birmingham Shooting Leaves Four Dead

Authorities in Birmingham are on the lookout for suspects following a tragic shooting that resulted in the deaths of four individuals on Friday afternoon. The incident took place just before 3 p.m. in the 900 block of Center Street North, a location in close proximity to both Legion Field and the Smithfield Library.

Details of the Incident

The Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service received a ShotSpotter alert indicating multiple shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered four victims with gunshot wounds lying unresponsive near an open lot. The victims were identified as Cortez Ray, 32, Talton Tate, 36, Terrell Edwards, 38, and Kevin McGhee, 38, all residents of Birmingham.

Tragically, three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while Kevin McGhee succumbed to his injuries at UAB Hospital, according to the Birmingham Police Department. Investigators believe that the men had been at a neighbourhood car wash when they were targeted by unknown assailants.

Community Outrage

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond expressed his belief that the incident was a targeted attack, rather than a random act of violence. The shocking nature of the crime has prompted strong reactions from the community, with Birmingham Public Safety Chair LaTonya Tate condemning the violence in a statement.

Tate emphasised the importance of speaking up and breaking the culture of silence surrounding such crimes. She called for unity in making the city a safer place for everyone, stating that the community must come together to combat those who seek to do harm.

Ongoing Investigation

As of now, no suspects have been taken into custody in connection with the shooting. Additionally, two individuals who had been reported missing since Valentine’s Day were found dead in a car, also victims of gun violence.

The Birmingham Police Department continues to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to come forward. The city remains in mourning for the lives lost and stands united in the fight against senseless violence.

This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
